When I got the call/email that my good friend, Brandi, was getting married and asked me to photograph their wedding, I was ECSTATIC!!!  I met Brandi at one of my first out-of-college jobs, People to People International.  She is one of those people that you immediately gravitate towards because she has such an amazing personality and a killer smile.  Years passed and we've kept in touch via Facebook, email, etc and even the occasional jaunt to New Orleans to watch my brother play with the Saints.

Both Brandi (well, it is now Dr. Brandi) and Craig live in Alabama where Brandi works as a Development Officer for the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) and Craig is the Media Relations Director for the SEC Conference.  They chose to get married at the BEAUTIFUL Durango Mountain Resort, which had an unbelievable backdrop.  DMR (or Purgatory Mountain) is where Shawn White likes to do a lot of his snowboard training.  Fun!

Their wedding was amazing and I has been so excited to share these images with everyone!  Here is a list of the vendors involved:

Brew Tour:  Ska Brewery
Reception Dinner:  Mahogany Grille
Officiant:  Barry Mooney

Craig is a master-blogger.  He did such a great job of updated all friends and family back home about the events from their wedding weekend.  He did everything directly from his phone, amazing!  If you want to check out the grooms point-of-view, check out their blog HERE!

Time for some formal shots!  As you can see from the ominous sky, our time was limited before the rain came.  However, in true Colorado form, it only rained when we were in the car and passed through quickly.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when there are thunderstorms in the area, the images turn out so dramatic!!

Had a whirlwind past two weeks with trips to SoCal, Durango and Michigan.  Excited to be sleeping in my own bed again.

Lots to blog, including this fabulous shoot in Laguna Beach, CA.  I was actually born in Newport Beach, CA and have lots of family down in SoCal, so I always welcome shoots that bring me to the area.

First up is Carmen and Rutherford.  You may recognize Carmen from a previous shoot when she was in Denver visiting.  Carmen founded Live Well International and prides herself on making others happy and healthy.  I will be the first to attest on how awesome this company is and how it can change your life and eating habits.  I have lost approximately 20 lbs since May and am continuing to eat healthy.  Her significant other, Rutherford, also is a successful businessman.  He is a personal chef, wellness guru and a spiritual believer.  He has got some exciting projects on the horizon, so follow his journey HERE!

I came into town to shoot some headshots for both their websites, take some images of some of her beautiful clients and also grab a few shots of Carmen and Rutherford together.  Everyone was so full of energy, I had an absolute blast!

If you hadn't put Laguna Beach in the post title, I would have totally known it was California anyway. They look like the very definition of Californians, beautiful and fun! I love the combination of the beach stuff with the more homey stuff!

You know when you see something for the first time and fall in love with it and just can't get it off your mind? Well that's exactly what happened to me when I first saw a GurglePot. LOVE at first site! The design is absolutely beautiful and just a touch quirky, which I adore :) They're super fun for kids, and you can also use them for fresh-cut flowers. Even better, they come in a host of different colors, so no matter what your house decor, you're sure to find one to match. Here's the story of how Matt came up with the idea for GurglePots:

gurglepot4.jpgYears ago, I attended my brother's wedding in a small village in Southern France. Since there were no hotels in town, all guests were matched with French hosts. My hosts spoke no English and I spoke no French which made the dinner conversation a challenge. Long stretches of awkward silences were compounded by the fact that French dinners can last for 3-4 hours. There was, however, one saving grace... a fish shaped water pitcher that "gurgled." I found myself drinking more water than wine so I could fill the silent room with "gurgling" and unite the table with smiles. Inspired by the lighthearted affect of the gurgling sound, I returned home and began sculpting my own version. Ten years, two kids, 15 molds and one typhoon off the coast of China later, I can finally share the GurglePot with you. I'm confident it will create similar smiles around your dining table in years to come. Pour, Listen, Enjoy!

So you may or may not know this but animal print is so "in" this season. Did I really just say that?! "So in?" Yes. Yes I did. I'm just going to own it.

If you haven't noticed animal print in stores or magazines lately, now that I'm telling you about it you'll be super aware. But with that in mind, I think it is my duty to give you a few DOs and DON'Ts when it comes to incorporating a little wild into your wardrobe.

DOs:

Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Do pair animal prints with bright colors.

You can make a bold statement by pairing one article of clothing (e.g., just a top or skirt) with a brightly colored corresponding article. It's very safe to stick with neutral colors when working with a leopard or zebra print, but bringing in a pop of color will really pull a look together. Just make sure the corresponding article isn't too busy - solid colors like this coral top and these cobalt skinny jeans work perfectly!

Do accessorize with animal prints.

Accessories are a great way to start incorporating animal prints in your wardrobe. The tricks are finding just the right accessory and not using too many. For example, I wouldn't pair both the scarf and the flats above in the same outfit. It would be too busy. But a pale pink top with skinny jeans and cognac boots paired with that scarf would be a perfect look as we transition into fall. Then you could pair the flats with a flirty top and pencil skirt. The idea is to keep it simple, but also make a statement. And that statement shouldn't be, "LOOK AT ME! I'M WEARING AN ENTIRE ANIMAL!"

DON'Ts:

animal print donts.jpg

Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4

Don't wear two pieces of animal print, even if they're sold as a set.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying don't buy that two-piece set. If it's a good deal and you'll wear both pieces (individually!!!), snag it. But make sure you keep them far away from each other in your closet so you are never tempted to wear them together. For example, you could pair the cardigan above with a black dress and pumps to work, but then wear the dress with a white blazer and colored heels for a girl's night out. Two pieces = two outfits.

Don't wear pieces that mix types of animal prints.

Please listen to this one! Put that zebra/leopard/cheetah shirt down! Now! Stick with one print, in one article. When the piece gets too busy, people's heads hurt looking at you and it looks like you couldn't decide which print you liked best. It's great to own a variety of prints, but keep them separated to individual items.

Don't wear an animal print pantsuit.

Sorry Katy Perry, this look just doesn't work! Animal print romper = cute. Animal print pantsuit = train-wreck. Make sure you stick to classic pieces that will transition into different seasons easily and avoid trendy pieces if you can help it.

Brooke Summer Photography says:

The picture of Katy Perry cracks me up... yikes! ;)
